Failing To Stop & Report A Motor Accident
If you are involved in an accident which causes either a personal injury or damage to property or an animal you are required by law to stop and to provide your name, address and the registration number of your car. Failure to comply with this amounts to a criminal offence pursuant to Road Traffic Act 1988. A requirement also arises for the report of such an incident to a Police Station as soon as possible.
The punishment upon conviction includes a fine and the imposition of penalty points. Disqualification from driving and a sentence of imprisonment of up to 6 months are within the discretion of the court.
