How long have you been practising?
For three years as a chartered Legal Executive.
When did you join LLB?
In 1997. Before qualifying I was a legal secretary / paralegal before retraining to qualify as lawyer. Before qualifying I was primarily assisting as a paralegal in the charity team so know my way around charity law well!
What is your role here?
I’m a charity lawyer and I am the main contact for charities. On a day to day basis I deal with:
- Charity formations
- Charity incoporations
- Advice on charity governance
- Advice and formation of CICs
- Charity property
I advise organisations that are household names right down to small not for profit organisations.
Do you have any specialisms in your field?
The whole charity field is a specialism! There are very few lawyers that actually have in-depth knowledge of charity law, so the service that I can provide to charities and not for profit organisations is more well-rounded than lawyers who just dabble in the area. Added to the expertise of the other lawyers in Lawson Lewis Blakers I think we can offer a better service to clients under one roof.
What do you do in your spare time?
Reading, baking cakes, dog walking, running.
Tell me an interesting fact about yourself?
I used to spend my school holidays travelling on merchant ships with my Dad.
