After the over indulgences that Christmas often brings it’s sometimes hard to motivate yourself to get back into the swing of things in January, particularly if you are contemplating a major change like moving house and simply can’t bear the thought of all that upheaval!
BUT IT REALLY DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THAT BAD………Is there ever a good time of year to move? Well, that depends upon your personal circumstances. Personally, I would prefer to move in the cooler months and get my new house all organised and ready for the summer months – that way you can get out and enjoy the good weather without feeling as though you should be indoors redecorating or unpacking boxes!
BUT YOU DON’T KNOW WHERE TO START……Unless you’re a seasoned house seller and purchaser it’s often difficult to know how to actually get that ball rolling and the whole task can seem very daunting. Fear not! My advice? START WITH THE FINANCES. The only way you may know if you can afford to move is if you make some enquiries. Speak to your bank or mortgage broker to see what you can afford and an estate agent to see what your house is currently worth. Have a look online at properties for sale to see what is on offer. If, after you’ve got all this information, you decide that 2017 isn’t your year to move then you’ve lost nothing other than a bit of your time in finding that out.
BUT IF YOU DECIDE THIS IS YOUR YEAR TO MOVE…………..you can start to get excited! Yes, moving is stressful for some and things don’t always go as smoothly as we all hope but if you get a good team on your side, it should make the experience a great deal easier. So, who do you need on your team? Well, you need an estate agent, a solicitor and possibly a mortgage broker to start with. Phone around and choose individuals that give you “good vibes” or those that are recommended to you by friends, family colleagues etc. Then, let them take the strain – after all, that’s what you’re paying us all to do! The average sale and purchase only takes 8 weeks. Eight weeks ago was the end of November and look how quickly it has gone since then!So, if your New Year’s Resolution is not to procrastinate (or even if it isn’t!) – why not get the ball rolling and get your house on the market and/or start searching for your new home? After all, if you do it now, moving house will all seem a dim and distant memory by the time you come to prepare for the over indulgences of next Christmas!
